Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
At Plashet School, we have a strong commitment to equality so that all members of the school community are treated equally and with respect. We welcome our public sector duty under the Equality Act 2010 to publish equality objectives and information.
The aim for this is to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
Our school is committed to eliminating discrimination and increasing understanding and appreciation for diversity. The curriculum aims to champion achievement for all student groups and work effectively to narrow the attainment gap while also promoting spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of all our students. Through the development of students' understanding of equality and diversity so we can increase empathy and strive to support the inclusion of all within our school community
We recognise that anyone, at any time of life, can be discriminated against or treated unfairly in one way or another and there are some groups of people who may face discrimination more frequently than others. Plashet School does not tolerate bullying, harassment or discrimination of any nature. As a public body it is to address where we see or hear it and come together to make our school a safe place for all. Our Equality, Diversity and inclusion Policy supports our commitment to Equalities while our equality objectives show how we plan to actively tackle particular inequalities, and reduce or remove them.
Our Equality Objectives 2023-2027 (4 academic years)
- Continue to work towards improving outcomes for all students including those with protected characteristics so they progress at least in line with expectations with their prior attainment and ability.
- With a focus on race, LGBTQ+, differently abled communities, religion and belief and under-represented minority ethnic groups, over a four year period systematically audit, review and diversify the school curriculum as required to ensure learning resources and opportunities are diverse in their representation of modern British society.
- Consolidate work done to promote mental fitness, creating a distinct Mental Health Policy and associated curriculum, so all members of the school community are confident, physically and mentally healthy.
- Foster a sense of belonging for all students including those with protected characteristics, so they may make a positive contribution to school life, feel respected, valued and included in the school community.
- Increase equality of opportunity for all staff and develop awareness of equalities, diversity and inclusion legislation and practices through training.
