Most Able
Aim:
At Plashet we believe that it is our responsibility to ensure that those girls who join us with high prior attainment leave Plashet having fulfilled their academic potential, and are equipped to attend outstanding Key Stage 5 providers and Russell Group Universities in future.
How do we identify Exceptional, Higher or More Able students?
Students identified as ‘Exceptionally, Highly or More Able’ (EHMA), have demonstrated the potential to be high academic achievers in either their Key Stage Two Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) or our internal summative assessments.
We believe that the More Able students need to show resilience, confidence and independence. This means that they themselves need to enjoy taking responsibility for their own learning, overcoming obstacles and working through problems. More able students will be expected to take on leadership roles throughout their time with us, and to be able to self-manage and organise their learning around these roles and enrichment activities.
In the Classroom:
We are committed to ensuring that all of our Most Able learners have access to a curriculum that is challenging in nature and gives all learners access to powerful knowledge, through the development of non-cognitive skills that allow them to thrive in their education. Teachers also work with more able students in a variety of ways, to ensure that they are sufficiently challenged and stretched in their learning.
Enrichment:
The progress of Exceptional, Higher or More Able students is centrally monitored and additional enrichment or intervention may be put into place to ensure they fulfil their potential. As a school we run a number of internal enrichment opportunities and participate in a number of external schemes and initiatives to drive aspiration and a love of learning that supports academic progress.
