Introduction to PE
Curriculum Intent
The aim for Physical education at Plashet School is to provide all students with a positive and enriching experience of Physical activity. Students will learn a variety of skills and concepts through the National Curriculum strands and through a variety of sports. Students will develop their skills and learn how to improve health, fitness and well- being through physical activity. They will be encouraged to be physically active both in school and outside of lessons. They will be given the opportunity to play competitively within school and against other schools. The curriculum has been designed so that students can access the skills needed to be physically active when they leave school and provide those wishing to study the subject to a higher level the knowledge and tools to do so.

At Plashet School all students are required to study core PE throughout KS3 and KS4. Core P.E. is NOT a GCSE examination course

GCSE PHYSICAL EDUCATION (AQA 8582)
Students will be expected to study physical education in a practical and theoretical way.
Practical: Pupils choose 3 activities for assessment from a number of activities including Indoor climbing, netball, trampolining and badminton.
Theory:
- develop knowledge, understanding, skills and values to develop and maintain your performance in physical activities and understand the benefits to health, fitness and well-being
- develop theoretical knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin physical activity and sport and use this knowledge to improve performance
- understand how the physiological and psychological state affects performance in physical activity and sport
How students will be assessed
- Written paper 60 %
- Coursework 40%
The practical assessment is worth 40% and you will be assessed in 3 sports each worth 10%. .You will participate in a variety of sports including Badminton, Netball, Trampolining and Indoor climbing.
The final 10% is allocated to a written piece of work called performance analysis. You will analyse and evaluate your performance in one sport to bring about personal improvement.
Enrichment opportunities
Include regular sporting clubs related to athletics, football, netball, rounders and subsequent fixtures and visits to professional matches. We also run orienteering sessions and inter-form competitions across each academic year.
