SEND

Plashet School is a fully inclusive school that ensures that all pupils achieve their potential personally, socially, emotionally and academically in all areas of the curriculum. At Plashet, all SEND students are fully included in the life of the school, challenged to aim high and provided with a wealth of opportunities to fulfil their potential.

The SEND team is a team of specialist teachers and teaching assistants that work closely with mainstream teachers to ensure that the needs of students with SEND are met primarily through Quality First teaching. We have specialist teachers in areas such as autism, visual impairment and hearing impairment as well as speech and language. Mainstream teaching staff have a good understanding of the needs of students with SEND and are well equipped to support each student using specific and relevant strategies and resources for their curriculum subject.

Alongside this, we run a range of specialised and tailored SEND interventions supporting a range of aspects of SEND needs including cognition and learning, communication and interaction, SEMH and physical disability. Where appropriate, we also engage the use of specialist SEND teachers from the London Borough of Newham and other outside agencies so that every area of need can be addressed and so that each student can fully participate in their education and develop the lifeskills required to support independence.

Our SEND students participate fully in all events in the life of the school including educational visits and enrichment activities including sports events. Our transition support extends from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3, and Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5 which includes work experience and sixth form and college applications.

So that all provision for students with SEND is planned for and reviewed with the family and young person at the heart of the process, our SEND teamwork closely  with parents and carers. We endeavour to ensure that communication is regular and supportive so that we may work in partnership for the betterment of each student in our care.
