School Library
Reading for pleasure is a central part of the culture of Plashet School.
We have two libraries which stock a range of fiction and non-fiction titles to cater for a wide range of interests and abilities:
- The North Library is open to students in Years 7 and 8 from 8:30am to 4pm.
- The South Library is open to Years 9, 10 and 11 from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Both libraries provide a calm, safe environment in which students can complete homework or revision. All Year 7 and 8 classes have a timetabled library lesson as part of the English curriculum.
All students also have access to a free ebook platform, ePlatform, which can be accessed via their Library Google Classroom.
Throughout the school year the libraries hold a series of events which help to develop our students’ love of books. We host special celebrations for World Book Day and National Poetry Day, organise book-themed competitions, arrange author visits and book sales and shadow the judging process for the Carnegie Medal.
Reading for enjoyment is crucial to student attainment and we hope that parents / carers will encourage their daughters by following these guidelines:
Make sure your daughter has time to read fiction. Students should read for at least 20 minutes each day.
Allow your daughter to choose her own reading material independently.
Model positive behaviour by reading in front of your children so it is established as an enjoyable and relaxing activity.
